Sinamay is one of the most popular hat-making materials in the world.

[column size=”one-half”]It is mainly made from the processed woven stalks of the Abacá tree (musa textilis), a banana palm native to the Philippines. With its fibres being three times stronger than cotton or silk, a fabric made from 100% Abacá can last for over 100 years.

The main quality of Sinamay is that it holds a very firm shape. As a natural material it is fantastic at holding radiant colours

You buy Sinamay by the metre or on a roll as you with other sorts of material.  Not only does Sinamay come in a variety of colours but you can also get textured and printed Sinamay as well.

The strength and firmness of Sinamay as well as its colour retaining qualities make it ideal for headpiece and fascinators

In Millinery, Sinamay has become the essential material.  Sinamay is an adaptable base material which can be used to create all kinds of spectacular hat forms.  Its unique qualities give it the ability to be used to create multi-layered pieces as well as being perfect for use in brims and bases.
